Advice desperately needed

We are attempting to begin a new chapter in our lives of parenting. The past few days Aubrey has taken her diaper and then proceeded to go to the bathroom. Today she thought she would be especially cute and take her diaper off during naptime. When I came to get her out of her room she pointed out (in her birthday suit) that there was poop in her crib, on her blanket, and yes--even on the floor! After talking with my mom, I have decided to try potty training. I know she is only 18 months, but she thinks she is 3 and I am tired of cleaning up pee pee and poo poo from all over the house. Which brings me to my point of this post. Seeing as how this is my first child, I know very little (ok, pretty much nothing) about potty training and could really use help. Maryn, I know you just went through potty training Luke, and Mandy I know you're working with Owen. I know many others have won the potty training battle with their kids. I would appreciate any, and I do mean ANY, advice or techniques that you have found to be successful. IHopefully in the near future will have some battle success of our own. I, and our carpet, appreciate your help!

Lacey,
Oh the joy! Potty-training is so not fun! I used a book called "Potty Training in Less Than a Day" by Nathan Azrin. It's kind of old school but totally worked for my girls. They were 2 yrs old though. As for Logan, well he was a completely different story. Nothing worked! LOL They have to be ready and decide they're going to do it, or else it's just a huge battle and you both get frustrated. Good luck!! Let us know how it turns out.

Lacey, we started Lukas at 18 months. He was so ready for it. He hated being dirty. So I didn't read any books, I just created my own approach. Whenever we were at the house, he didn't have on any bottoms. I took him to the potty all the time. I didn't do a potty chair, I did the potty that hooks to the adult potty so they don't fall in. I'd sit him down on the toilet and we'd draw or read a book. He just turned 2 1/2 and he's done great. He sleeps with a pull on and when we go on long trips he wears a pull up. But otherwise he has boxer briefs. He loves to hear his poopee fall in the potty. And when he's finished he loves to see it and YELLS "BIG POOPOO" MOMMY!. The other day his poopee was small so he just had to climb back on there. I guess my approach was make it really really fun. Didn't talk to much about it, just did it.Good Luck!

Give me a call Lacey if you want to know what I did, it is kind of hard to explain on here.

Oh and are you sure you want to attempt this with a newborn?

Each child for me was different, but one thing I told my sister that worked for her was, buy some panties that she really likes and also some plain panties, put her in the plain panties and let her go to the bathroom in them and see how she reacts, if she doesn't like feeling wet, then that's good! If she doesn't notice or care, then I'd try something else. OH also bribing her with her favorite treat is also good. Ethan liked the reeses pieces candies. And only give her like 3, so she'll want more! Just try everything you can to see what works for her.

Lacey, Loved the pictures of your cute family. From what I can see looks like little Evelyn looks a bit like your Mom... what do you think???
Have no idea what to do about the potty training other than put her on the little potty chair at regular times when you think she might be ready to go, make it a game... I don't know. You're smart you'll figure it out...
Can't wait to see you all in Sept..

So when Moanna was up in MD with my parents, my mom began potty training her. Needless to say Renee and I have been slacking since she got back, BUT she is a little potty trained. THE BEST TIME to get her to go is right when she wakes up, run into the bathroom with her and say "let's go potty" and then sit down on the potty next to her. (yes Ryan this means you have to sit down and pee) Hopefully she does a little tinkle, after which Moanna closes her little lid (ie flushing) and then you both get to do the Potty Dance, which for us goes, "Moanna went pee pee in the potty, Moanna went pee pee in the potty,"

As for the Poop in the crib, WOW. Renee says your best bet is to put button pants on her, or otherwise clothes that she will not be able to get out of, therefore not allowing her to even get at her diaper.

Hope some of that helps, good luck, and we Miss you all like crazy. Hugs and Kisses from VA.

if she's not ready - use duct tape on her diapers - I had to do that with Jayden for months - saved a lot of clean up for me! :)

In honor of the Olympcs, and in preparation for sept. 25...we bring you Dwight Shrute!
